Holiday Vacation Advanced Hitters Workshop
Ages 13 and up
"Featuring guest hitting instructor Nomar Garciaparra and Lou Merloni!"
This advanced clinic will be directed by RBI’s lead hitting instructor and owner Paul Rappoli and will feature many of the area’s finest hitting instructors as well as hitting lectures from some very special guest speakers including former Red Sox great and current Oakland Athletic infielder Nomar Garciaparra, former Red Sox infielder Lou Merloni, and current Head Baseball Coach of Rollins College in Orlando, FL, Dr. Jon Sjogren.
Paul and his staff will look to provide hitters with an expansive and in depth look at advanced hitting techniques. This is an intensive and “hands-on” hitting program that will jump start each player’s off-season training schedule.
Availability to join this clinic is extremely limited so we suggest acting fast! This clinic is for players ages 13+ who are serious about the game of baseball and have aspirations of playing the game at the highest levels.

As always, we will ensure that you have the proper fundamentals in order to accomplish your advanced goals, but be prepared to learn the methods of hitting that will help you get to the next level.

Paul Rappoli – Owner/Lead Instructor
Paul attended Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, MA where he was a Boston Globe All-Scholastic in 1989. He spent 1989-1997 as a member of the Boston Red Sox organization. In 1994 Paul played in the Arizona Fall League where he was teammates with basketball superstar Michael Jordan as well as Red Sox superstar Nomar Garciaparra. Paul served as Executive Vice President & General Manager of the Hit Dog Training Center from 1999-2003. He is currently President of Rappoli Baseball, Inc., "RBI", a company dedicated to teaching young people of all ages the proper fundamentals of baseball while stressing the importance of individual responsibility, teamwork, and a positive attitude towards everyday life. Paul is the Director of the Trot Nixon and Jason Varitek Baseball Camps and Clinics, and also serves as an associate scout for the Boston Red Sox. Paul currently resides in Foxboro, MA with his wife Hope, his sons Reece and Nolan, and his daughter Dylan.
Nomar Garciaparra – Guest Hitting Instructor
In college, Nomar Garciaparrra was a two-time First Team All-American shortstop at Georgia Tech. The shortstop was drafted in the first round of the 1994 MLB amateur player draft by the Boston Red Sox. He made his Major League debut on August 31, 1996 against the Oakland Athletics. In 1997, Nomar won both the Rookie of the Year and the Silver Slugger award after hitting 30 home runs and driving in 98. Nomar won consecutive batting titles in 19999 and 2000, hitting .357 and .372, respectively. During the1999 season, Nomar hit two grand slams in one game against the Seattle Mariners on May 10th. After two solid seasons in 2002 and 2003 with the Red Sox, Nomar found himself at the center of a trade that sent him to the Chicago Cubs in 2004. From 2004 – 2008, Nomar played for the Chicago Cubs, L.A. Dodgers, and the Oakland Athletics, winning Comeback Player of the Year in 2006 with the Dodgers. Nomar is a six-time MLB All-Star, and one of the greatest players in Red Sox history.
Lou Merloni – Guest Hitting Instructor
Lou Merloni grew up in Framingham, MA and attended Framingham High School, starring for the baseball team. Lou played his collegiate baseball at Providence College and graduated in 1993 before being drafted in the 10th round of the 1993 MLB amateur player draft. Lou made his Major League debut on May 10, 1998 with the Boston Red Sox. In 1999, Lou made a brief stop in Japan as a member of the Yokohama Bay Stars of the Japan Central League before resigning with his hometown Red Sox in 2000. From 2000-2007, Lou made appearances with several major league teams including the Red Sox, San Diego Padres, Cleveland Indians, Oakland Athletics, and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Currently, Lou works as a co-host of “The Baseball Show” that is simulcast on WEEI 850 AM radio and Comcast Sports Network on television. Lou also makes occasional appearances as a co-host on WEEI’s “Big Show.”
Jon Sjogren – Guest Hitting Instructor
Jon Sjogren finished his fourth season at the helm of the Tars baseball program in 2009. Sjogren was hired in July 2005 and became just the fifth head coach in the Tars’ illustrious history and he picked up milestone win number 400 of his coaching career in the Tars’ 8-3 victory over Eckerd at Alfond Stadium on March 10, 2008.
Prior to taking over the Tars’ program, Sjogren served as Head Coach at Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I. for 15 years, building the Bulldogs into one of the premier Division II teams in New England. He compiled a career record of 359-305-2 with Bryant, including a victory over Rollins in the opening game of the 2004 NCAA Division II World Series. Sjogren was named the Northeast-10 Coach of the Year four times and ABCA All-Northeast Region Coach of the Year in 2004. His teams have won five Northeast-10 Conference championships and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 1998, 2002, and 2004, and he has coached five players who earned All-America honors.
Sjogren played for Florida Southern in 1985 before transferring to Bryant for the remainder of his career. With the Bulldogs from 1986-88, he established himself as one of the best players in the history of the program, garnering All-Conference honors all three years while posting a career batting average of .370. He led the Bulldogs to a Northeast-10 Conference title and an NCAA Tournament appearance in 1986. In January 2007, he was inducted into the Bryant University Athletics Hall of Fame.
After graduation, Sjogren spent two years as an assistant coach at the University of Rhode Island before returning to take over the Bryant program in 1990. He earned a master’s degree from Rhode Island College in 1993 and a doctorate in Education from Boston University in 1998.
